School Trips to Watermouth Castle

Treat your class to a trip to Watermouth Castle - it's the absolute best day out for kids! They'll get the chance to explore a historical castle with beautiful Victorian gardens, plus a museum of curiosities and unique vintage rides.

School visits are available Monday - Thursday

We are thrilled to share our refreshed 2025 School Visit Offering at Watermouth Castle, tailored to provide a fun, educational, and unforgettable experience for primary school students.

 

Here’s what’s included for just £8 per child:

  • Entry to Watermouth Castle and Grounds: Explore a hands-on Victorian-era castle where students can touch and feel most objects on display.
  • 1 Free Toboggan Ride: Excite your students with a thrilling ride (weather and height restrictions apply).

 

Curriculum-Linked Victorian Lesson Plan KS1 & KS2:

    • A 60-minute self-serve lesson plan that can be delivered entirely onsite or split between school and the castle.
    • A worksheet for the children to complete once onsite.
    • A history fact sheet about Watermouth Castle's history.
    • An answers guide for teachers.
  • Immersive Experiences:
    • Explore dungeons featuring old shops, a fairy museum,  and a smugglers' tunnel.
    • Watch the mesmerizing Fountain Show and discover the enchanting gardens and rides.
  • Convenient and Stress-Free:
    • Pre-visit teacher access to plan your trip.

Typical Itinerary for the Day:

  • Pre-Visit: Part 1 Victorian lesson plan delivered at school.
  • On the Day: Arrive between 9–10am for a self-guided experience, including educational activities, castle exploration, rides, and lunch.
  • Departure: Students leave with exclusive discount vouchers for future visits.

 

Our package also includes free entry for one adult per child and requires a minimum group size of 15 children.

The castle itself is packed full of historical artifacts, displays and curiosities - it even has a legendary smuggler's tunnel, located deep in the dungeon.

Life-size displays, dioramas and models will teach you about Victorian life in the household, as well as the history of the castle through the ages. It was used as a home for wounded Army Officers during the First World War, and during the Second World War it was the headquarters for operation P.L.U.T.O. (Pipe-Line-Under-The-Ocean)!
